The Hand of Fatima is a protective amulet whose origin comes from the Arab world, as a symbol of virtue, patience and faithfulness. A Hand of Fatima can have from three to seven fingers, but the most common down through the centuries is the five-fingered version, the number of good luck in the Islamic world. It is usually hung over the front door of a house to protect it against negative influences, but this is a small tabletop version.
